Parish Nurses
Recognizing that Jesus, the Great Physician, was concerned with people as whole persons—seeking soundness in body, mind, and spirit—the goal of the Parish Nurse is the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities; prevention of illness, and injury; and responding to suffering in the context of the values, beliefs, and practices of the faith community.
We strongly encourage people to meet their health needs with their primary care provider and the professional medical system. A Parish Nurse supplements that health care by functioning as an integrator of faith and health; serving as a health educator, personal health counselor, referral agent and liaison with congregational and community resources, facilitator of volunteers, developer of support groups, and a health advocate.
Parish Nursing is a ministry within the Member Care Work Area of our church.
The following services are provided by the church:
- Blood Pressure Screening—Parish nurses provide confidential, free blood pressure checks on the third Sunday of every month in the Fellowship Hall between services.
- Flu Shot Clinic—FUMC hosts a flu shot clinic in the fall. Check the worship bulletin for date and time. Pre-registration is preferred.
- Blood Drive—FUMC generally hosts an annual blood drive in support of the Ernie Wallace Memorial Blood Bank.
- Health Education—Occasional programs provide the congregation with information regarding health directives & end-of-life issues, caregiver training, etc. Watch the announcement bulletin for these opportunities.
- Aquatic Exercise Classes—Contact Bethany Goodman at 835-3580 or email for the schedule of classes and cost.
