If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.  II Chronicles 7:14

God has called His people to be obedient and one of the commands He gives us is to pray.  We commit to pray for FUMC as an act of obedience to God our Father and His precious Son.  It is our responsibility to pray and God’s responsibility to respond to the prayers of His people with “Yes,” “No,” or “Wait.”  We pray out of obedience then look to the Lord to see how He will answer our prayers.

The purpose of the Prayer Ministry is to pray for the Congregation of the First United Methodist Church, its Pastors, Worship Services and Ministries.

There are several distinct parts of the Prayer Ministry:

Sunday Morning Prayer Time – Those who have committed to this time gather in the chapel 45 minutes before the first Sunday service each week and spend 30 minutes praying for the services that day.

Day of Prayer – Some have committed to pray daily for our church, pastors, worship services and the ministries of FUMC using a monthly list of prayer requests.  They also take one day a month to “pray without ceasing” for FUMC.  On their days, they commit to pray for the church every time God brings it to mind.  In this way, throughout the day, one person is persisting in prayer.

Prayer Breakfasts – Three times a year the congregation and Prayer Partners are invited to a potluck breakfast which includes food, fellowship, concentrated prayer, a teaching on prayer and communion.  It is a blessing to gather with fellow believers to uphold FUMC before God’s throne.

Email Prayer Support – consists of a group of pray-ers who have committed to pray diligently for requests received by the church and through email.  All requests are forwarded as received to the pray-ers by email. If you would like to submit a prayer request through a form on our website, click here.

It is a privilege to pray both for First United Methodist Church and all who request prayer.  We desire to honor God with our obedience.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition,
with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God,
which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your
minds in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:6, 7
