Acts 2:42 - "The (the early church) devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers." LOGOS is Greek for 'the Word." LOGOS is a mid-week program of ministry for children, youth and families. In LOGOS, young people develop Christian relationships with Jesus Christ, their pastors, their peers and many caring, loving adults. LOGOS is neither a substitute for nor a replacement of regular Sunday School or youth groups. It is a unique enhancer that supports and strengthens the rest of the programs of the church. |

Our Vision
Growing up in today's world is tough! Youth and children must be able to face this reality and live with purpose, hope, faith, and joy. We believe passionately that these qualities of life are uniquely found in a relationship with Jesus Christ. LOGOS exists to help the church foster this relationship through a proven system of nurturing ministry. And... it's like summer camp every week! |
Our Mission
To nurture youth and children into a committed relationship with Jesus Christ through the building of Christian relationships To prepare children for the life of a Christian
|
The Four Part Program
The four elements of the LOGOS program were chosen with a purpose. Following the example of the early Christians described in Acts 2:42, LOGOS provides...
- Teaching (Bible Study)
- Fellowship (Recreation)
- Breaking of the Bread (Family Time/Dinner)
- Prayers (Worship Skills)
All four parts are essential to LOGOS, just as they are essential to the life of the whole congregation, and all four are experienced each week.
BIBLE TIME
The goal of LOGOS Bible Study is to nurture children and youth into intelligent, obedient and Biblically-informed discipleship. Each grade-level uses curriculum specifically designed for the developmental age of the children in the class. During the twelve LOGOS years, the children will study most of the Bible.
RECREATION
The goal of LOGOS ReCreation is
to experience great fun at the
expense of no one. Crazy games get everyone
laughing and allow athletes and non-athletes alike
an equal chance for fun. Through these and quieter
games and crafts, relationships are developed as
adults and children reveal themselves in play and
share the pure joy of fun.
FAMILY TIME
The goal of LOGOS Family Time is
to to provide a joyous, intergenerational
celebration over a shared meal as all experience
being in the family of God. Young people are
assigned to tables with their peers and an adult
who acts as “table parent.” We experience “holy
hilarity” each week through fun themes and games.
WORSHIP SKILLS
The goal of LOGOS Worship Skills
is is to develop responsibility for and
practice in a variety of worship skills, including
vocal choirs, drama, prayer, visual design, and
others, because worship is our primary service to
God as disciples. The active participation of young
people in worship benefits the entire congregation.
Participation and Roles of Others
MINISTRY PARTNERSHIP
No young person is ever expected to stand alone in their spiritual development. Family, clergy, and other members of the congregation all support children and youth in LOGOS by sharing their gifts, talents, and time.
THE FAMILY
The family is the primary support mechanism
for the young person in LOGOS. A parent is
expected to attend an orientation program at
the beginning of the year, fill out required
forms, and volunteer time to support some
aspect of the program for that year. When a
caring adult partners with a child in this
manner, several important characteristics are
taught. The adult models commitment to the
church by bringing the child to events and
fulfilling their service position at LOGOS. The
parent also models commitment to God by
encouraging regular Bible study and prayer
and by helping children complete the home
study assignments.
THE CLERGY
Members of the clergy support LOGOS by making involvement with young people a priority. All of the pastors at FUMC participate in LOGOS wherever and whenever they can to the extent of their own gifts and talents. They become friends to the children as well as counselors and teachers.
THE CONGREGATION
Nurturing Christians is the responsibility of ALL adults in a congregation. Singles, couples without children, older adults and grandparents alike can find a way to enter into this vital ministry. LOGOS has a place for everyone to share a variety of individual gifts. The only requirements are that you love God,
love children, and have a gift to share.
